The Jackbox Party Starter is a party video game developed and published by Jackbox Games. It is designed for newcomers to The Jackbox Party Pack series, and was released on June 30th, 2022.[1]
The Jackbox Party Starter contains three previously-released games: Quiplash 3 (originally from Party Pack 7), Tee K.O. (originally from Party Pack 3), and Trivia Murder Party 2 (originally from Party Pack 6). All three games were updated with multilingual support and improved moderation[2]—Tee K.O. received the most changes, including the addition of closed captioning, passworded game, and max player options.
History
The Jackbox Party Starter was first announced on February 25th, 2022—the pack was made in response to people often asking where to start if they were new to Jackbox.[3]
The first game announced for the Starter pack was Quiplash 3, announced on March 24th.[4] The second game, Tee K.O., was announced the following month, on April 19th.[5] The third and final game, Trivia Murder Party 2, was announced about a week later, on April 28th.[6]
The Party Starter's release date of June 30th was revealed on June 14th—the game was initially released digitally on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.[7]
On July 20th, 2022, a patch was released that addressed performance issues and other bugs, as well as adding an option to scan a QR code in the lobby, which (upon scanning) will redirect the user to Jackbox.TV with the room code automatically inputted[8][9]—the latter feature was first teased on May 13th.[10]
The Jackbox Party Starter was later brought over to Amazon Luna through the Jackbox Games subscription channel on April 27th, 2023.[11]
On June 20th, 2024, The Jackbox Party Starter was updated with a Brazilian Portuguese language option.[12]
