The Jackbox Party Pack 9 is a party video game developed and published by Jackbox Games, and was released on October 20th, 2022.[1]

It is the ninth installment in The Jackbox Party Pack series, and contains five games: Fibbage 4, Roomerang, Nonsensory, Junktopia, and Quixort.

Party Pack 9 introduced some new features, including QR Code sign-in through the lobby, easy server reconnection (so a session isn't instantly destroyed if the host loses internet connection), and the ability to kick players in-game through the Jackbox.TV moderation tools.[2]

History

The Jackbox Party Pack 9 was first announced on February 11th, 2022, which not only teased the return of a franchise that "you know and love", but also that the first game would be unveiled on February 18th.[3]

That first game was Roomerang, which would slowly be shown off in a series of monthly Inside the Box livestreams throughout the year.[4]

The second game revealed was the only sequel in the pack, Fibbage 4, on April 22nd, 2022.[5]

The third game, Nonsensory, was unveiled on June 13th, 2022.[6]

The fourth game revealed was Junktopia, announced on June 24th, 2022.[7]

The fifth and final game announced was Quixort, on July 15th, 2022.[8]

On August 17th, 2022, pre-orders for The Jackbox Party Pack 9 opened on Steam and on Jackbox's official online shop.[9]

On August 30th, the trailer for The Jackbox Party Pack 9 was released.[10] More gameplay was shown off during PAX West from September 2nd to the 5th.[11]

On September 27th, Jackbox Games announced the release date for Party Pack 9: October 20th.[12]

From October 3rd to October 10th, a demo of The Jackbox Party Pack 9 was made available during Steam Next Fest—only Nonsensory, Quixort, and Junktopia (with limited content) were playable.[13]

On release day (October 20th), the Jackbox Games team celebrated with an all-day Launch Day Marathon livestream, which also serves as the conclusion for the Inside the Box series for that year.[14]

On November 17th, 2022, The Jackbox Party Pack 9 received a patch that fixed several bugs, and added new features and content. The update was released on all platforms except the Nintendo Switch, which would receive the update on December 15th.[15]

On December 15th, 2022, the Language Pack patch was released, which added support for multiple languages, including French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, and Castilian Spanish. This update was released on all platforms except the Nintendo Switch, which would receive the update on February 27th, 2023.[16]
