YOU DON'T KNOW JACK (Facebook) was an online trivia video game developed by Jellyvision Games (later Jackbox Games) and launched on Facebook on May 29th, 2012.[1] This was one of the first You Don't Know Jack games where players could play with others remotely in the same game.
It was later brought over to iOS on December 13th, 2012[2], followed by Android on May 21st, 2013.[3]
The game is no longer available to play as of March 1st, 2015, due to Facebook's API update and because of how little traction the game garnered.[4]
Gameplay
The game worked exactly the same as the other You Don't Know Jack games: You'd be presented with a multiple-choice question of which you had to answer. If you got it right, you got the cash, and if not, you'd lose it.
Just like in 2011 and Flash, the score wasn't in a fixed amount, but rather the remaining amount of time you'd have left to answer a question. (e.g. if the player answered with 15.89 seconds on the clock, they'd earn or lose $1,589 dollars.)
This game also had plenty of other question types, some of which were ported over from YOU DON'T KNOW JACK (2011):
- DisOrDat: You were prompted with seven different statements of which you had to pick whether it's part of either groups or both, occasionally. You'd also gain a bonus for how much time you had remaining.
- Cookie's Fortune Cookie Fortunes With Cookie "Fortune Cookie" Masterson: Cookie would read out a fortune from said fortune cookie, then prompt you with a question related to it. The answering structure worked exactly the same as a normal question.
- Funky Trash: Cookie would stumble through somebody's trash, with various objects and "valuables" he'd find along the way, then prompt you with what these trash findings meant.
- Gibberish Question returns in this game, a first since YOU DON'T KNOW JACK Volume 6: The Lost Gold, and was notably absent from YOU DON'T KNOW JACK (2011). This question type was where you were prompted with a seemingly nonsensical phrase, with a value of $3,000 to boot, and you had to type in what the original answer could be. The game would also give you three clues along the way. The cash remaining when you answered the prompt would be the amount of cash you'd win or lose.
- Elephant, Mustard, Teddy Roosevelt or Dracula?: A brand new special question type where players would be prompted with a description on-screen, then would have to pick which of the four individuals is the prompt talking about.
The fifth and final question was the Jack Attack, where you'd have to buzz in on the match that correctly fits the prompt on-screen. If you got it right, you get $1,000; and you'll lose $1,000 for each incorrect answer.
All player scores and player placements would show up at the end of the game, with Cookie shouting your placement. After the game's concluded, whichever placement you got in the game plus the amount of cash you've earned whilst playing, would add up to your current booty.
If you've collected a sufficient amount of cash, you'd level up (the only game in the series to offer a leveling up system), and earn an amount of coins because of it. You could also share your placement and level ups on both Twitter and Facebook.
If you were to get last place in a game, you'd be rewarded with a spin of the Loser Wheel, a wheel that you could spin to win $1, and small chances to win a free spin or $5,000. Whichever prize slot you'd land on would then be deposited to your booty. (This would also cancel out your earnings for your real final score, whether they'd be negative or not.)
Episodes
There were two categories in the "Episodes" tab of the game in the main menu, almost all of which were introduced and released in 2013, these were:
Special Guest Episodes
Cookie would greet the special guest and he'll have a small conversation with them at the start of the game. The gameplay would work exactly the same as a regular You Don't Know Jack game, but with the special celebrity playing along in the episode, which would have their player box colored in fuchsia as opposed to blue. At the end of each episode, the guest host would talk about their up-coming projects or some fun facts about them.
At the end of each episode, you could go back to the Episodes tab, where you can see the guest's final scores as well as your own, and you could replay the episode if you desired to.
The fourteen guest hosts who were invited to play the game were:
- American actor Rich Sommer (aired on February 7th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American model and actress Adrianne Curry-Rhode (aired on February 27th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American actor and comedian Brian Stack (aired on March 13th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American comedian Doug Benson (aired on March 27th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American comedian and actor Jimmy Pardo (aired on April 19th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American comedian and actor Andy Kindler (aired on May 9th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American actor and comedian Jonathan Katz (aired on May 31st, 2013)[citation needed]
- American actress and musician Janina Gavankar (aired on July 3rd, 2013)[citation needed]
- American actor and screenwriter Bob Odenkirk (aired on August 23rd, 2013)[citation needed]
- American comedian and actor Paul F. Tompkins (aired on September 18th, 2013)[citation needed]
- American actress and comedian Maria Bamford (aired on October 2nd, 2013)[citation needed]
- American writer and comedian Julie Klausner (aired on October 25th, 2013)[citation needed]
- Canadian voice actress Jennifer Hale (aired on November 7th, 2013)[citation needed]
- Cookie's cats, Mayonnaise and Poopsie (aired on November 22nd, 2013)[citation needed]
Special Episodes
Along with the celebrity episodes, there were also special themed episodes in the same tab, these included:
- Jack The Halls - A Christmas themed episode. (Aired on December 17th, 2012; and the only special episode to be released that year.)[citation needed]
- 2012: Year In Technology - An episode revolving around technological topics, like hardware, operating systems, among other things. (Aired on January 1st, 2013)[citation needed]
- Red Carpet & Drapes Gala - An episode which revolved around several actors and award academies. (Aired on February 21st, 2013)[citation needed]
- March Derangement - An episode about sports, most notably, basketball. (Aired on March 20th, 2013)[citation needed]
- Spring Break Wet Trivia - An episode which revolved about vacations and spring or summer activities. (Aired on April 3rd, 2013)[citation needed]
- Sharknado. Sharknado. - This seemingly had no concrete theme throughout the episode. However, it's the only special episode with a sponsor, and a real one at that, with it advertising another Jackbox title, Clone Booth. (Aired on July 19th, 2013)[citation needed]
Sponsors
Once you've played enough games, or spent 300 coins, you could've gotten a new sponsor that would pop up at the start of every single game. These would also have a dedicated tab at the menu screen, where you could rewatch their video or hear an audio-only advertisement of their sponsor. These sponsors were, in order of appearance in the game:
